Talking in Parenthesis

Ramblings and angst from a mostly stay at home mom

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us. It is in everyone. And as we let our light shine, we give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. -Nelson Mandela

Three Things Thursday

Good grief I almost forgot that it was Thursday. I hate it when Mondays are holidays, messes up my whole week.

Been thinking of things for TTT and after a conversation with my youngest son decided that today will be the 3 things I miss about being little. I am not talking about teen stuff, more like early elementary age.

1. Riding my bike. Just riding for no reason, in circle, skidding out etc. Not to get from point A to point B, or for exercise.

2. The excitement of cartoons. Remember when cartoons were on only Saturday or special holidays, like the Charlie Brown stuff? Now they are on 24hrs and they are special.

3. Sitting any ol way in the chair I please. I used to watch TV upside down. Now if I can get myself in that position and that is a big if somedays, I will get or sure looked at like I need serious help. But in my house it is very likely I will asked what is wrong with me.

There are a bunch others, i think I will do a post about it later in the week.

Random Ramblings and Odd Thoughts

Just some stuff that will never really develop in to a full blown blog entry but it floating around my brain in any case.

--My birds favorite song is Don't Phunk With My Heart. I am not sure what that says about either one of us. And yes birds have favorite songs, he sings and dances to it.

-- I am so very tired of people feeling that the only way to make themselves feel better is insult and tear other people down. I refuse to be a part of that, it is so very high school, which is probably why I never fit in high school.

--I am also very tired of people insulting things I like. You have a conversation, people ask you what actor you like, movie, singer etc. When you add it to the conversation they feel the need to tell you how gross, weird or whatever your choice is. While I on the other hand never tell them I think Brad Pitt is a short twerp or Ben Affleck is hack. Okay I just did there, sorry. Can you tell I had a bad day at the bus stop? I am aware my tastes are different than most people, but I am not a freak. It isn't like I said I lust after Jack the Ripper or something, jeez. And frankly I didn't say I lusted after anybody.

-- As bad is it is for the environment, I could spend hours watching a plastic bag dance on the wind (and yes it was windy here again). It is sort of zen experience, like those sand garden thins for me.

-- There are few things as satisfying to me as an organized linen closet. Oh jeez what does that say about my life?

-- Emma announced today what she wants to be when she grows up, care to guess, you will never get it....a bunny. When I asked here what do bunnies do, she blinked and calmly replied, hop. I guess that is okay, I wanted to be a horse and I turned out, well nevermind.

-- Brit started baseball practice yesterday. I don't think I can handle this growing up thing.

-- Oh and on the growing up thing, I noticed Brit has one of those small teenage boy moustaches. Oh lord...

--I noticed walking to the bus today there was a bunch of new green grass. I am so ready for spring.

Well I think that is enough for now...

Yet another Monday

I am currently hiding in my room watching Cops ( I can't help it, I love that show. I actually have a friend who is an officers that has been on Cops, pretty cool huh?), doing laundry and playing on the laptop. Ah the glamorous, go-go life of a mom. Pretty exciting huh? It is finally going to get above freezing today. It has been sub-zero the last 3 days or so. We even had rolling blackouts on Saturday because the power company wasn't prepared to handle the cold. Great, nevermind that it is not unusual for it to be that cold in Denver in Feb. Had us worried at work when the power went off, we didn't know about the blackouts and were a little concerned. The cold is not good for the birds, not to mention the employees, lol. But back to why I am hiding. Clay has a friend over, he spent the night last night and they are engrossed in a game of Star Wars, Empires or something like that. Sort of like Rise of Nations and Age of Mythology, but within the Star Wars universe. It is pretty neat and involved. I am so glad Clay has friends. He is one of those kids that doesn't make friends easy and tends to get hurt because he gets taken advantage of all the time. Most of the "cool" kids think he is weird. Well yes I guess if you go by the sad MTV standards he is weird. He cares more about his family, his goals, his animals and likes his rather unruly afro of hair. I personally think he is an amazing kid, of course I think that of all of my kids. But I love his independence. I love he does his own thing regardless of how much he is teased. And he has been teased and bullied. There has been lots of tears, his and when I am alone or with Ron, mine. But they have never broke him, he has stayed true to himself and his goals. And now he has found a friend like him. One that has goals different but similar than his. One that cares if he does well in school and doesn't think it is cool to get in trouble. One that likes the weird, be it animals, sci-fi or dragons. Or that thinks his hair is cool and could careless. And the coolest of all one that will stand up for him, one that has his back and when the going gets tough circles the wagons and digs in with him. I spent years telling him that he would find a friend, hugging him through the tears, that there would be a friend like this. And truthfully I didn't know if he would find a friend like this, just knowing how middle school kids are. The different, the unique are not welcomed for the most part in middle school. And having that one person, somebody in your corner besides your family, has made a big difference for him. It has been wonderful to see him open up, to be completely happy. To not be so sad when he comes home from school. Such an amazing and wonderful transformation. I love being a mom.

Jumping on the band wagon!

This first started over on Mrs Fish's blog. Really neat idea so if you all would pick 6 adjectives that you think best describe me on my
Johari Window . Thanks to all who click!

Three Things Thursday

It is cold and snowy here this morning. Alli is sick (again), so the girls are wrapped in blankets watching Nick Jr. So that made me think of my favorite TV shows from when I was little, so that will be today's theme.

1. Land of the Lost. Remember when there actually kid's shows on Saturday morning? I loved this show, the giant fruits, the strawberries especially. My friends and I used to play this in the backyard too.

2. The Superfriends. Not the weird one now, but the original and with the Wonder Twin (Wonder Twins, activate!) They would have one big story with everybody and then a couple that focused on one superhero. It was always a good day when there was a Wonder Woman one!

3. I think it was called Emergency 51. It was about 2 paramedics and to a lesser degree the fire house they were in and the hospital that they went too. Randolph Mantooth was Johnny. I think that was my first TV crush. It is still on like TV Land every once in a while. We used to play that show in the backyard too.

Three Things Thursday

Today is the first day since Friday that I have felt human. I got the worst cold, that turned into one of those coughs that make you have to rest between coughs. It was terrible. So sorry for ignoring my blogging world. Off to TTT...

1. Although a pretty major tomboy one of my favorite toys was this doll and her general store. I think her name was Josie or Jodie. She had long almost to the floor hair and the general store had tons of little doo dads to sell.

2. My dog Buddy (beagle/basset mix) snores. In fact he is snoring so loud right now he sounds like a person. The first time I heard it I thought it was a person, scared the crap out of me.

3. Franklin is at Balarat for the rest of the week. (overnight outdoor education that the school does, really neat, up in the mountains) I was fine with both Brit and Clay going away on their trips. But for some reason I am having trouble with Franklin. I am so worried about him. I know he is fine and is doing fine but... Jeez I am such a goof.

Three Things Thursday

The Theme today will be favorite books. Jeeze, there is no way I can limit it to three so I am going to go for my 3 favorite series of books.

1. Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. They are funny,a quick read without being too simple. Just plain fun.

2. Kathy Reich's series. Now made into a TV show, sort of. The books are ever so much better. Tempe is my favorite character.

3. Linda Fairstein's. Her resume makes these books a great read, she was the ADA for Manhattan's SVU unit, so she knows her stuff.

Runner ups
Patricia Cornwell, Sue Grafton, Diana Gabaldon, and Diane Mott Davidson.

Hmm, I think I might go reread something today. Going to be another grey day and might even snow!

Finally

I finally have my grey day. It s perfect, just what I have been waiting for. It is cool, I could have it colder but beggars can't be choosers. It might snow tonight. The weather folks are mixed, like always. But I watching the geese while out at the bus stop and they seem unsettled. Flying to their evening grounds much earlier than usual, so if you believe in those type of signs it seems we might get a bit of snow.

Clay, poor guy, is sick again. Everybody has had this cold, caused me to lose my voice, but it landed hard on Clay. Seems like every germ that come round has slapped Clay hard. Thankfully he is good student and missing school isn't a big problem.

I am off to enjoy my grey day, hmmm I think I will read the newspaper first then some stitching. Joy.
