Talking in Parenthesis

Ramblings and angst from a mostly stay at home mom

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us. It is in everyone. And as we let our light shine, we give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. -Nelson Mandela

Three Things Thursday

In honor of the unofficial start of summer this weekend I thought I would use that as my theme. I was watching the girls play in the park on the way to Franklin's fifth grade graduation thing and it made me think of all the things I loved about summer when I was little, so here are 3...

1. Making clover necklaces. In my backyard we had 3 big patches of clover and I used to spend hours and hours on my stomach looking for four leaf clovers and making jewelry out of the blossoms.

2. We used to have a membership to the local rec center pool when I was growing up, so we went swimming everyday. After we came home my Mom always made a huge bowl of popcorn and I would eat it sitting upside down in my dad's chair watching cartoons. Usually Scooby Doo.

3. Going to the library and doing the summer reading program. Each summer our library would have a different theme for the summer reading program, sometime space, dragons and knights, nature etc. One year the we got to photocopy our face, sign it and hang it up on the wall. Very cool stuff when you are in 2nd grade.

Phase 2

The next phase of my life is due to start this weekend. Gulp. I am learning to how to hand feed the baby birds at the store and will start opening after memorial day. Gulp. I am up to 32 hours per week and that may go up depending on what is needed. I am excited about doing more at the store and learning to feed the babies is amazing. But this means this phase of being a mommy is over. Exciting and sad. I am excited to see the kids grow up, to see the people that they are becoming. But I also have no more babies, only one is small enough to really snuggle anymore. You these different phases are coming but you are never prepared for it... Gulp

I's

I Want... The dog to stop licking my foot, gross

I Wish... I had a yard, instead of just a patio.

I Hate... Leafblowers!

I Am...Happy and sad Alli is graduating from kindergarten today.

I Miss...My mom, but she just moved to New Mexico so I will see her more often.

I Hear...The morning, Nick Jr, Ole chattering to his toys, and the girls laughing.

I Wonder...What Emma is laughing at so hard.

I Can't Imagine...Not being a Mom.

I Am Not...Being negative today.

I Sing...Much to my oldest's horror.

I Dance...Again much to my oldest's horror.

I Cry... A lot, when I am happy when I am sad. In fact I am just getting all teary thinking about Alli's graduation.

I Am not Always... Nice.

I Do have...Great kids

I Would... Get more done if I didn't have to sleep.

I Write...All the time, but usually only for myself.

I Make...A great Thanksgiving dinner.

I Confuse...Most people.

I Know...I am a good mom, wife and person.

I Should...Give my self more credit

I tag anybody who wants to do this just let me know if you do.

Random Ramblings

Ugh they have started doing the landscaping stuff around our complex so you know what that means. Leaf blowers. I hate those stupid things. They are loud, smelly and I think create more of a mess than they clean up.

Alli graduates from kindergarten Friday. I can't believe she will be in school full time next year. Seems like yesterday that she was a baby and about a minute ago she was just learning to walk. Sigh. She gets a present from Ron and I, just a little thing and she said she wants either a hula hoop or a jump rope. That makes me so happy, I love that my kids still want old fashioned toys.

I am not sure what it says about me but I am so happy that Ms Spider is back on Nick Jr. I really like that show. The whole thing makes me smile.

I was thinking last night after Brit asked if he could buy an album off of napster, what is going to happen to the liner notes? I loved getting a record (yes a real record) or tape or late CD opening it up and reading the words. Remember singing along with the songs? If we start only downloading music where will the liner notes go?

I was just helping Em put on her shoes and I realized I have never taught any of the kids how to tie their shoes, yet they all know how. (except Em). I remember buying Brit a neat book with a practice shoe when he was in 1st grade and that really was the last time I thought about it. Does that make me a bad mom? I am going to have to ask the other how they learned to tie their shoes.

Well this next week or so is going to be packed with end of the year stuff so if I am not around that is why.

Three Things Thursday

Wow seems like forever since I did my last TTT. I think I will use last weeks theme, I was looking forward to that one. So three places I want to see...

1. Greece. I had a professor in college from Greece and he used to show us pictures and tell us stories.
2. Wales. My mom's side of the family is from Wales and I would love to see the places that we are originally from.
3. The Highlands of Scotland. Ditto from above except my Dad's side of the family.

Bonus... places I have been but want to take to kids to and see through their eyes
1. Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. One of my favorite places one earth.
2. Bryce and Zion Canyons and of course to eat bumble berry pie outside of Zion.
3. The Grand Canyon, both rims
4. Carlsbad Caverns

Back among the living

I am finally feeling human again. I have been really sick, even went to the hospital, sick. I am so behind on everything, hopefully I will get caught up in the next day or two. Just glad to be well again.
